Terms of Service
Skeinly — Effective April 29, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Skeinly mobile application ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
These Terms form a binding agreement between you ("User", "you") and the Skeinly team ("we", "us", "our").
2. Description of Service
The App is a knitting pattern management tool that lets users:
- Create, edit, and organize knitting projects and patterns
- Track row-by-row or section-based progress
- Author and view structured charts (symbol grids)
- Share patterns and progress with other users
- Comment on and fork patterns shared with you or available publicly
- Receive notifications about activity on shared content
The App may be used in local-only mode (no account required, no cloud sync) or with a registered account that enables cloud sync, sharing, and collaboration features.
3. User Accounts
3.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this minimum age requirement.
3.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
3.3 Sign-in Methods
You may sign in using email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Each method is subject to the third-party provider's terms in addition to these Terms.
4. User Conduct
You agree not to use the App to:
- Upload or share content you do not have the right to share, including copyrighted patterns or charts you did not author or license
- Harass, threaten, or harm other users via comments or shared content
- Upload content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the App, our servers, or other users' accounts
- Use the App for commercial spam, promotion of unrelated products, or any deceptive practice
- Circumvent paywalls, subscription gates, or other access controls
We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these conduct rules.
5. Subscriptions and In-App Purchases
5.1 Free Tier
The App offers a free tier with usage limits (number of projects, number of patterns, progress photos per project, ability to send shares, ability to open pull requests, ability to edit structured charts). Free-tier users can fully view, fork, and respond to public content shared by others.
5.2 Pro Subscription
The Pro subscription unlocks unlimited usage and creator-side features (sending shares, opening pull requests, editing structured charts, unlimited projects/patterns/photos). Pro is offered via auto-renewing subscriptions:
- Monthly Pro: billed monthly
- Yearly Pro: billed annually at a discounted rate
Subscription pricing is displayed in the App and on the App Store / Google Play product page at the point of purchase.
5.3 Free Trial
New subscribers may be offered a 7-day free trial. The trial automatically converts to a paid subscription unless canceled at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Cancellation must be performed through your Apple ID account settings (iOS) or Google Play subscription settings (Android).
5.4 Renewal and Cancellation
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You may cancel a subscription at any time through your platform's subscription management interface. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then.
5.5 Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Refund requests are governed by their respective policies:
- Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com
- Google Play: Google Play refund policy
We are unable to issue refunds directly. Disputes regarding billing should be addressed to the platform that processed the purchase.
5.6 Price Changes
We reserve the right to modify subscription pricing. Existing subscribers will be notified at least 30 days before any price change takes effect at their next renewal. Continued subscription after the change date constitutes acceptance of the new price.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 Your Content
You retain all rights to the patterns, projects, charts, photos, and other content you create or upload to the App ("Your Content"). By using the App, you grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of operating the App and delivering the service to you and the users you choose to share with.
6.2 Sharing License
When you share content with another user or make a pattern public, you grant the recipient (or, for public patterns, all App users) a license to view the shared content. If you grant fork permission, you also grant recipients the right to create their own copies. You may revoke share access at any time, but you cannot retroactively recall content that has already been forked.
6.3 Our Content
The App, including its source code, design, branding, and the symbol catalog, is owned by the Skeinly team and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The App is open source and distributed under the MIT License; see the project repository for details.
6.4 Symbol Catalog
The crochet symbol catalog included in the App is based on the JIS L 0201 Japanese Industrial Standard and the Craft Yarn Council (CYC) standards, both of which are public-domain knitting/crochet notation systems. We do not claim ownership of these standards.
7. Public Patterns and Discovery
When you set a pattern's visibility to "Public", it appears in the Discovery feed and may be browsed, forked, and discussed by any App user. Once a pattern is public, you cannot revoke access from existing forks, though you may set the source pattern back to private to prevent new forks.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to publish any pattern you set to public visibility.
8. Account Termination
8.1 Termination by You
You may delete your account at any time through Settings > Delete Account. Account deletion is permanent and removes all your projects, patterns, progress, comments, and uploaded images from our servers. Active subscriptions are not automatically canceled by account deletion; cancel them separately through your platform's subscription management.
8.2 Termination by Us
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms or applicable law. We will use reasonable efforts to notify you of the reason for termination unless doing so would compromise an investigation or violate the law.
9. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from harmful components. The accuracy of knitting patterns, charts, gauge calculations, and yarn recommendations is the responsibility of the original author; we do not verify or endorse user-submitted content.
The App is a tool to help you organize your knitting work. The actual craftsmanship, materials selection, and project outcomes are your responsibility.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.
Our total liability for any claim arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us for App subscription services in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or USD $100, whichever is greater.
11. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review it to understand what information we collect and how we use it.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-App notice or email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the App and may delete your account.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the courts of Japan, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence provide otherwise.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect, and the unenforceable provision shall be modified only to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.
